Global Feast 2009

Grass roots or grandeur: Global Feast is for everyone – at any time of the year!

In 2009, Global Feasts were held in Australia, Portugal, New Zealand, and Utah, USA, and included intimate dinners, gala affairs, and creative collaborations with other local organizations. New this year, we invited you to pick the date that was the best and most meaningful for you, making Global Feast easier to plan and more flexible. This also allowed you to celebrate your special days such as birthdays, anniversaries, and local or national festivities.

Australians showed creativity and a personal touch, hosting four very successful Global Feast events throughout 2009:

  • Joanne Luciana, Haemophilia Foundation of Australia (HFA) staff member, held a birthday dinner for family and friends;
  • Lorraine Saunders, HFA Council delegate 2009, hosted a morning tea at her work place;
  • Haemophilia Foundation Victoria hosted a Global Feast event as part of their Family Camp;
  • Haemophilia Foundation Western Australia ran a sausage sizzle; and
  • Joan Bates, whose husband has hemophilia, hosted a Moroccan-themed dinner party with family and friends.

Together, they raised awareness and funds toward improving hemophilia care and treatment within their community and around the world.

Portugal’s Global Feast was held on World Hemophilia Day, April 17. Their Global Feast Gala Dinner on April 17, 2009, marked the end of the various activities that took place on World Hemophilia Day in Portugal. The presence at the dinner of HRH Lady Isabella of Braganza, Patron of the Portuguese Association of Hemophilia and other Congenital Coagulopathies (APH), helped make the event very special and contributed to its success. Guests included people with hemophilia, doctors, nurses, government representatives, and representatives of pharmaceutical companies. They joined together to show that "Together, we care!”

Here are some of the many photographs APH collected of their distinguished guests which illustrate an event that will surely mark a new image, a new attitude, and a new energy at the Association.

On September 12, Utah’s Global Feast was a creative collaboration with a local culinary school. Read more about their successful event.
